Nairobi Chief Officer, Transport Richard Kavemba Dies at Nairobi Hospital

A Nairobi County Chief Officer passed away on Wednesday morning at the Nairobi Hospital.

Richard Mutinda Kavemba, who served as the chief officer, Transport and Public Works in Nairobi County succumbed after suffering from a short illness.

Taking to his social media, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko mourned the late county official.

"It is with a heavy heart and humble acceptance of God's will that I announce the passing on of Mr. Richard Mutinda who worked as my Chief Officer, Transport and Public Works. Mr. Kavemba passed on this morning at Nairobi Hospital after a short illness," Sonko disclosed.

Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi also sent his condolences describing the late Mutinda as a man who pursued excellence through his life.

"Rest well Ndugu, May the family be surrounded by much love and may God strengthen each of them. Mutinda pursued excellence through his life and was a good man," Itumbi stated.

Kavemba was appointed to head the transport and public works docket in Nairobi county earlier in the year.

Initially a member of the Wiper party, Kavemba, popularly known as Mwalimu, shifted to Jubilee and vied for the Nairobi senatorial position during the 2017 polls.

He once served as an elected councillor for Nairobi’s Umoja Ward in the then larger Embakasi Constituency (2002-2007), CDF secretary for Embakasi constituency under Ferdinard Waititu (2008-2012).

He also worked as the Personal Assistant to the Minority Whip in the Senate, Johnstone Muthama, under the Parliamentary Service Commission (2013-2016).
