Raila Holds Special Sitting With 13-year-old Wendy Waeni

A 13-year-old Kenyan girl's plea to Africa Union special envoy, Raila Odinga, was honoured on Thursday culminating a special sitting with the ODM leader.

The girl, Wendy Waeni, who is the UNICEF young champion for World Children’s Day and Children’s Rights had tweeted asking to meet Raila ahead of the Tuesday, November 20, 2018 global occasion

Raila put forward a positive gesture for the young UNICEF ambassador, hosting her on Thursday morning at his Capitol Hill office.

"I would love to meet you ahead of the World Children's Day that is on 20th. World Children's Day is UNICEF's annual global day of action to advocate for Children rights," Waeni wrote to Raila in a tweet on Tuesday.

Raila, after holding talks with the young children's rights champion stated kids can grow into a productive lot if the society is provided with an enabling environment.

"The rights of children must be upheld at all times. We should all strive to create an enabling environment so that they may fulfill their potential and blossom into productive members of society," held Mr Odinga.

Waeni is also a talented acrobat who has performed and impressed President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame and the former British Prime Minister David Cameron among other prominent people.

In her UNICEF ambassadorial role, she will endeavour to advance attainment of equal opportunities for children, especially in the education sector.

"Every child in the world has the right to a free and quality education. More than 260 million children and young people are out of school, and many of them will never get an education,”  stated Waeni, shortly after being announced the global children's ambassador.
