Warrant of Arrest Issued Against Fake Car Importer

A Kibera court on Friday issued a warrant of arrest against a fake car dealer accused of scamming several individuals.

Newton Kigera alias Jermaine is currently on the run and is being sought for obtaining money by pretending to be a car importer.

Among those he is accused of scamming is Kenya Airways Captain Karanja Njenga who allegedly lost Sh2.9 million to Kigera.

According to the prosecution,  Kigera received the funds between October and December 2017 having convinced Njenga that he would import vehicles for him.

He was eventually released in October on a Sh1 million cash bond after denying the charges before before Senior Principal Magistrate Elizabeth Juma.

In a twist, however, Kigera failed to appear for the scheduled hearing on November 6 explaining that he was hospitalized at the Genius Ruiru Family Hospital.

As it turned out, Kigera had forged a letter from the hospital as police discovered after paying a visit to the facility.

The hospital asked authorities to arrest Kigera for forgery.

A lady who presented the fake letter to the court was arrested and charged with forgery and impersonation.

Vanesa Hamadi Mwachela had pretended to be Kigera's sister as well.

The hearing was rescheduled to November 13 but Kigera, yet again, failed to show up.
