Kasarani MP Mercy Gakuya Mourns Father's Death

President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto are among leaders who sent their condolences after the death of Washington Kamaku Mwangi, father of Kasarani MP Mercy Gakuya.

Uhuru hailed Mzee Kamaku, 73, as a distinguished public servant who played his part in improving the country's transport sector.

He further acknowledged the impact Kamaku had on many residents of his home county, Murang'a.

“My deepest condolences to the family, friends and relatives of Hon. Mercy Wanjiku Gakuya, MP for Kasarani, for the loss of their father Washington Kamaku Mwangi.

“Mzee Mwangi was a distinguished public servant who contributed immensely to our transport sector, and mentored many along the way,” the President's statement read in part.

Uhuru further described Mzee Kamaku as a man of great insight with a sense of commitment and duty to his family, community and the country.

Ruto, on the other hand, noted that Kamaku had mentored many people over the course of his career.

"Condolences to the family and friends of Kasarani MP Mercy Gakuya, who has lost her father, Washington Mwangi.

"Mzee Mwangi was a dedicated public servant and hardworking professional. He used his vast experience to mentor many during a distinguished career. Rest In Peace," the DP tweeted.

Before being elected Kasarani MP in 2017, Mercy Gakuya had been in active politics as a National Youth Secretary at the Democratic Party of Kenya.
