Alex Kosgey's Shoes During JKL Interview Gets Kenyans Talking

Emgwen MP Alex Kosgey's shoes became a topic of discussion among Kenyans online following his Wednesday interview on Citizen's JKL show.

During the interview with host Jeff Koinange, the camera zoomed in on his shoes revealing a casual pair of popular brand 'Clarks'.

Kenyans online were quick to comment on the post with many noting that the legislator's choice of footwear was not as important as the issues he was addressing while on air.

"Hon Kosgei grew up in a family where there are billions of money. He went to good schools and that’s evident in his demeanour. He doesn’t care about the shoes because he can buy the whole shoe shop if he wants," one user wrote.

Another commented, "This is how our middle class behave! When discussing critical issues, we get excited and throw in unnecessary sideshows and distractions that make the message to be lost in hubris!"

During the interview, Kosgey, who is the son of former powerful cabinet minister Henry Kosgey, called for transparency in the national borrowing and oversight by Parliament.

"I am working on a bill that sets to put a cap on national debt. It would also require Treasury to submit to Parliament the proposed repayment plan," he stated adding that the government should try and live within its means.

He further defended his decision to oppose the gender bill when it was presented in the previous parliament, assuring that he would reject it again.

"I am on record for having voted against the gender bill in the last parliament. This time around, Duale has brought back the exact Bill as last time. We rejected it then and are rejecting it now for almost the same reasons.

"Those reasons are - Nobody wants to increase the size of parliament. The wage bill is unsustainable as it is already and there is a feeling we are over-represented," the MP explained.

He noted that the gender bill was not popular advocating for a better way to ensure progress for women other than making amends in the constitution.
