A drunk police officer caused a scare aboard a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train after he fired a shot through the window.
In the Friday evening incident, reports indicated that officer Bernard Ng’ang’a and his colleague, Cina Okul, had boarded the train on escort duties at Nairobi terminus.
Ng’ang’a, however, started indulging in an alcoholic drink from a plastic bottle he had carried with him when the Mombasa-bound train reached Athi River.
“On reaching Athi River station, Ng'ang'a started drinking alcohol in a plastic bottle and became unruly,” narrated Emali OCS Gerrishon Murithi.
Shortly after the indulgence, the officer threatened to shoot the train’s drivers unless they stopped it and even shot a window using his G3 rifle to demonstrate the urgency.
His colleague alerted the train drivers of the incident who eventually stopped the train.
Two sergeants from the station’s police post intervened and disarmed their drunken colleague.
He was immediately relieved of his duties from the train.
“Sergeant Sammy Korir and Paul Njeru of Emali Railways police station intervened and disarmed Ng'ang'a,” read a police statement.
Luckily, no one was injured in the scuffle.
