Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji's has revealed a change of strategy in dealing with corrupt government officials.
According to the Standard, the DPP has moved to the anti-corruption court to obtain a declaration that both State and public officers should step aside whenever they are charged in court.
"It’s a mockery of the whole justice system when an official who is charged with a serious crime goes back to office midway through the court process and is, therefore, able to manipulate evidence and intimidate witnesses. This has to stop," Haji stated.
He further indicated that getting suspects to step down would make public and state officers feel the wrath of his moves.
Besides, the DPP revealed that he is geared towards nailing more high profile graft suspects with a strengthened resolve and clarity of action.
"I am not satisfied yet. I want to shake more trees... Please don’t ask me which trees because I will not tell you, but trees I will shake," Haji quipped.
The DPP further urged Kenyans to be patient as he moves to crack graft in the Kenyan political and bureaucratic system.
"The public does not seem to understand that investigation to tie up a tight case takes time, sometimes six months to one year," the DPP elaborated.
If Haji's move comes to materialization, several governors and legislators charged in courts thus far will have to step aside awaiting clearance or conviction by the Courts.
Among those likely to be affected are governors Okoth Obado (Migori) and Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia).
Others include MP Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Chachu Ganya (North Horr), Ali Rasso (Saku), Patrick Musimba (Kibwezi West), John Mwirigi (Igembe South), John Waluke (Sirisia) and Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills).
