Why Police May Not Wear New Uniform on Jamhuri Day

Police officers may not wear their new uniform starting Jamhuri Day as earlier expected over extensive hiccups in the supply logistics.

According to People Daily, only a few officers had received the new uniform hours to the outphasing of the old attire on Jamhuri Day.

For instance, senior ranking officers including Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG), Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and Commissioner of Police had not received their uniforms as of Monday.

Although Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet had instructed that all officers working at Vigilance House and Jogoo House should be in the new attire, tailors were yet to take the measurements of officers deployed there.

Officers of the rank of Inspector of Police are reportedly provided with the Persian blue material at the Industrial Area to have their uniform done.

However, officers of lower ranks are provided with the full uniform inclusive of shirt/blouse, trousers and beret.

Other than on the day the uniform was launched, only Boinnet and his deputy from Kenya Police Edward Mbugua, and officers attending the National Police Service week have appeared publicly in the new attire.

Police officers set to participate on Jamhuri Day are nevertheless said to have their uniform ready.

It is not clear what logistical setbacks have affected the rollout of the new uniform which was meant to change the face of the National Police Service.

The uniform received criticism from members of the public who opined that it did not convey authority as should be the case.
