Date Police Will Start Wearing New Uniforms

The National Police Service has revealed when it intends to roll out the new police uniforms that were introduced in September.

The police will wear their new outfits during the 2018 Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12.

This will mark the launch of the attire that will be used as the new official wear for the officers.

The National Youth Service (NYS) was tasked with tailoring the new uniform.

Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, said involving the NYS would cut the cost of making the uniform for more than 60,000 officers.

They are burning the midnight oil to beat the deadline of distributing the uniforms to officers ahead of the launch on Jamhuri Day,” said an officer aware of the plans.

A deal signed by Boinnet and acting NYS Director General Matilda Sakwa last month ended lobbying from merchants who wanted to be awarded the tender.

A team, popularly known as Uniform Committee, arrived at the deep blue colour for the General Duty personnel.

Members of the team included representatives from National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, and National Youth Service.

The process of getting the new uniform started last March when President Uhuru Kenyatta was briefed on proposed changes and gave a green light on the same.
