Former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto Shot Dead

Former Kilifi County Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

According to Coast Regional Police Commander Noah Mwivanda, Kamto was killed by the gunmen as he entered Nyali Estate home in Mombasa.

Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki indicated that his body has been taken to Pandya Memorial Hospital Mortuary.

"The former Kilifi deputy governor this morning at 4:45 a.m when he was entering his home in Nyali was accosted by three gunmen who had their faces covered," the Coast Regional Police Commander stated.

The gunmen reportedly demanded for cash from Kamto although they did not take anything from him.

The attackers allegedly seemed to have trailed him and took Kshs 6,000 from a guard before fleeing the scene.

"In the ensuing confrontation, one of the gunmen shot him three times injuring him fatally.

"Our officers from Nyali Police Station rushed to the scene within 15 minutes and found him already dead," Mwivanda stated.

In October, Kamto appeared in a Shanzu court in Mombasa facing fraud charges for falsely obtaining Kshs 700,000 from Lawrence Mochama on January 27 at Maasai Resort in Mombasa.

He was, however, released on a Kshs 50,000 bond pending hearing of the case.

His co-accused in the case, Kennedy Ngala, allegedly obtained Kshs 400,000 from Mochama.
