Nairobi Governorship Aspirant Miguna Miguna Dumps Running Mate and Picks Karen Wangenye

Nairobi Gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna has dumped his running mate James Gathungu after two weeks and picked little known Karen Wangenye just three months to the elections.

Appearing at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to present his papers for governorship on Thursday, Miguna shocked many when he showed up with a different running mate.

Wangenye appeared calm as Miguna presented his papers though he was turned away by County returning officer Joseph Mele because he presented 2,000 signatures in JPEG, as opposed to the Excel format.

She is an alumnae of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and has previously worked in various administrative roles.

Last week, Miguna unveiled Gathungu as his running mate saying he was the right man to share in his vision and his vibrant mind would come in handy in transforming the city.

Gathungu is a former Laikipia University student leader who graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and had said he had all it takes to be the city deputy governor.

It is not yet clear why Miguna opted for a different running mate for his governorship just three months to the elections though other leaders have done the same including Kilifi boss Amason Kingi who selected engineer Gideon Saburi as his running mate following constant disagreements with Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto who jumped ship and joined President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.
