President Uhuru's Salute to Wife, Margaret Kenyatta, Melts Kenyan Hearts

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday wowed many Kenyans after one little gesture to his wife, Margaret.

Shortly after arriving for the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium, he toured the stadium aboard the armoured ceremonial Toyota Land Cruiser and inspected the military parade.

However, upon getting to the presidential dais, Uhuru who was donning the Kenya Army ceremonial outfit did the unexpected.

Instead of the normal handshake with the dignitaries present, Uhuru saluted several of them including the First Lady.

The move seemed to have caught Margaret by surprise as she smiled in disbelief and attempted to salute back.

Although the President did salute other leaders including his deputy, William Ruto, Raila Odinga, Governor Mike Sonko, and Kalonzo Musyoka, it is the salute to his wife that captured many people's attention.

The light moment saw many of the dignitaries, including the Deputy President burst out in laughter.

President Uhuru showed up for the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations wearing the full Kenya Army ceremonial outfit.

According to a communication by State House, Uhuru donned the Red Tunic in line with "Trooping of the Colour ceremony which was held during the celebrations.

A military unit colours embody its spirit and service, as well as its fallen soldiers.

On a battlefield, the greatest shame, or the greatest glory is considered to be the capture of an enemy colour.

Every battalion "troops" or marches its colours through the ranks so that everyone can see that the colours are intact before and after every battle although the practice is today largely ceremonial.
