NTSA Revokes 200 Drivers’ Licences in One Month

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revoked 210 drivers’ licenses since the crackdown against rogue matatu operators kicked off in November.

NTSA Director General Francis Meja stated that the rogue drivers will be required to undergo mandatory training before they are allowed back on the roads.

Since commencement of the exercise, approximately 210 driver licenses have been suspended. We shall intensify efforts to wipe out all drivers failing to observe traffic laws by revoking their licenses,” stated Meja.

He further explained that the crackdown was aimed at curbing road accidents especially during this festive season.

Road traffic crashes tend to increase during the festive season, majority occurring mostly at hazardous zones or blackspots. Majority of these crashes are attributable to human behaviour,” continued the director.

He also asked the public and drivers to be vigilant while using the roads explaining that they both had a responsibility to ensure road crushes did not occur by following traffic rules.

On Wednesday morning, a Mazda Demio veered off Mbagathi way killing three people and seriously injuring one other.

On Monday, five people were also killed and nine others seriously injured in a road accident along Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

The accident, which happened at Kapiti Plains, was a head on collision between a church van and a lorry.
