Grand Manor Hotel in Gigiri Demolished

Demolitions on the multi-million Grand Manor hotel by City Hall commenced on Thursday at 3am.

City Hall used the now popular Sany machinery during the operation of the Hotel located near US embassy in Gigiri.

This comes roughly a day after a court, on Tuesday, ordered for its demolition since it posed a security threat to the adjacent United Nations offices.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officershad earlier arrested the hotel's owner, Praful Kumar, over bribery claims.

They claimed that he had attempted to bribe Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in Kwale County.

They further explained that Kumar had allegedly planned to meet the Governor with a Kshs5 million bribe before the EACC sleuths closed in.

Some leaders were however not impressed with the turn of events leading to demolition of the hotel with others questioning the bribery trail that lead to its construction.

Who was bribed along the way to get to this stage in the construction? Who approved this investment? Surely it takes two to tango? Was it approved first and thereafter the investor 'squeezed' with his back against the wall to save his investment? Or was it bribery all the way?” posed Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris.
