President Uhuru Kenyatta Summons CS Amina Over Curriculum Roll Out

  • Furious President Uhuru Kenyatta summoned Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed in the sidelines of his working tour of Kisumu County.

He called her to a meeting to put her on notice over the confusion created by the botched roll out of the new 2-6-6-3 curriculum.

The CS had told the Senate Education Committee that the ministry was not ready for the roll out and that it is too important to be rushed.

The worst thing that can happen is for us to roll out something that we are not all comfortable with. A little discomfort is acceptable but huge discomfort is unacceptable,” she stated.

Amina spoke just days after Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang told the country on a live tv interview that the roll out was on course.

The session with the president is reported to have triggered a crisis meeting at the headquarters in Jogoo House.

Sources familiar with the details told The Standard that a new roll out roadmap would be established and communicated on Saturday.

A team has been tasked to review the statements made by the CS at the Senate, to establish whether indeed she stated that the curriculum roll out would be stopped.

It also emerged that a team may also be set up to oversee the implementation modalities to relieve parents of the growing anxiety.

The president is very sensitive to the education sector and has pledged that the education budget will be closer to 30 percent of Kenya’s total budget.
