FBI Pursues ODM, Jubilee Governors Over Akasha Probe

An ODM governor and his brother are among tens of powerful Kenyans on United State’s Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) list of persons linked to Akasha drugs.

The list of shame also includes two governors from Jubilee party, a cabinet secretary, an MP, two judges, a former governor and current and former top police bosses.

A source revealed that the county head and his brother had been extensively mentioned by the two Akashas, Ibrahim Akasha Abdalla and Baktash Akasha Abdalla.

They are wanted by FBI over their links with the Akashas. The two Akasha brothers have extensively named them in their statements,” the source was quoted by the Star.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji stated that they received numerous requests in connection with the highly placed people that were named by the Akashas.

He, however, explained that extradition requests had not been made.

We have had interactions with them, there have been questions and there are areas where we need to cooperate. Once we agree on how to proceed, then formal extradition requests will be made by the US,” stated the DPP.

According to papers filed in a New York court, if the extradition proceeds, the named Kenyans will be required to answer to involving aiding drug trafficking.

The Akasha brothers, who had reportedly been in the drug trade for years, pleaded guilty on October 26, 2018 to criminal charges that included conspiracy to import the drugs into the United States.

Some of the people named in the list are claimed to be allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga.
