How US Detectives Cornered Akasha Brothers To Plead Guilty

Ibrahim Akasha and his brother Bakhtash Akasha pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges in the United States after an associate they worked with turned into an informant.

Vijaygiri Anandgiri Goswami who was arrested alongside the two brothers became a witness for the investigators due to his long-standing relationship with the Akashas.

US detectives piled pressure on Goswami to surrender information because his crime-infested past would negatively affect his chances of mounting a formidable defence.

In a bid to salvage himself, he cooperated with the US Department of Justice and even admitted to contracting an assassin on behalf of the notorious drug dealers to take out an acquaintance.

After serving 10 years in a Dubai prison for drug-related charges, he moved to Mombasa where he met up with the duo and recruited more people to move the narcotics.

Together, they supplied copious amounts of an assortment of drugs to America.

In his home country, Goswami had denied involvement in drug cartels multiple times and claimed to be engaged in coal mining and trading gold. However, his criminal ways would eventually come to light.

Probation reports for the brothers will be crucial in determining their sentencing.

The report will cover their past criminal record, age circumstances under which the crimes were committed and whether they genuinely feel remorse.

The charges carry a minimum of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
