President Uhuru Offered Prime Minister Position in Exchange for Raila's Endorsement

During his Kisumu tour, President Uhuru Kenyatta held an exclusive meeting with Luo Nyanza leaders at the Kisumu State Lodge on Thursday, December 13.

The section of Governors and lawmakers had an undeniable offer to President Uhuru, promising him the Prime Minister’s position if he endorses ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency in 2022

They also promised to support the president on his referendum bill so that it would facilitate for his inclusion in government come 2022.

In the referendum talks, both parties agreed that it was necessary to expand the executive arm of government and to create a Prime Minister’s position to promote inclusion.

The leaders also discussed the Building Bridges initiative where they discussed methods on which they would unite the nation to avoid wrangles.

President Uhuru has repeatedly made his support for a referendum known publicly and as the members present in the meeting revealed to the Star, the exercise is on its way.

The meeting was strictly Luo leaders and President Uhuru affair, with ODM leaders like Kisii Governor James Ongwae, his Nyamira counterpart John Nyangarama and Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi being requested to leave.

“They were told it was a purely elected Luo MPs affair. It brought together elected leaders from Nyanza and those from Nairobi,” A senator revealed.

National Assembly minority leader, John Mbadi, however, denied politics being the agenda of the meeting, emphasizing that they strictly discussed the building bridges initiative.

“The President talked about building bridges and how we can unite the country and stop tribalism,” he insisted.
