Kenya Power has issued a December 24 deadline to some homeowners in Buruburu, Njiru, Mowlem, and Saika to vacate or face demolition.
Other areas that have been mapped include Umoja Phase One, Inner Core, Tena, Embakasi Baraka Estate, Tassia Estate, Mathare Valley slums.
Demolitions will also extend outside Nairobi County to Industrial Area in Nakuru and Mazeras and Bangladesh in Mombasa.
The power company claims that the houses are illegal as they stand on power transmission line reserves.
The houses are among 1000 constructions countrywide that have been put up illegally.
Calvin Odera, the secretary of Buru Buru Youth Settlement Scheme dared the government to proceed with the plans.
“All government offices will not be working when the notice expires. Isn't that suspicious? Let them come, we will take it as it comes,” stated Odera.
The residents claim that they have been harassed at least three times this year by people they termed as goons allegedly hired by the company.
The company denied the claims arguing that it only hired casuals because the area is prone to criminal gangs.
“These were not goons but hired casuals supervised by Kenya Power team and escorted by armed police. The area has security challenges because of the existence of armed gangs,” commented Kenya Power Security Services Manager Geoffrey Kigen.
