Suspended KNH CEO Lily Koros Lands Job at Ministry of Health

Suspended Kenyatta National Hospital Chief Executive Lily Koros has landed a new job at the Ministry of Health months after a brain surgery saga nearly took her career down the drain.

Reports indicate that Koros has been appointed as an Administration Secretary at the Ministry headed by CS Sicily Kariuki.

Confirming her hiring, Health Principal Secretary (PS) Peter Tum revealed that Koros will work under him in the administrative wing.

The operations at the Ministry of Health are divided into the technical wing which is headed by the Director of Medical Services and administration wing headed by PS Tum.

"She is in charge of administration and her job entails oversight of the general administration duties in the ministry, which include finance, accounts and other departments," the PS stated.

In March, CS Kariuki sent Koros on compulsory leave after a neurosurgery mix-up saw physicians carry out a brain surgery on the wrong patient.

The decision, however, attracted heavy criticism from a section of legislators from the Rift Valley who threatened to impeach the CS.

It took President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto's intervention to save CS Kariuki from what appeared to be an imminent impeachment.

Koros began her tenure at KNH in February 2014 having previously served as a hospital administrator in Litein, Kericho County and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Her appointment likely signals the end of her return to the referral hospital and is likely to pave way for a CEO to take over from the acting CEO, Thomas Mutie.
