Suspended Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lily Koros was on Sunday replaced by Dr. Thomas Mutie by the institution's board of directors.
The board also appointed Dr. Peter Masinde as acting director of clinical services to take over from Dr Ben Githae who was also sent on compulsory leave.
The appointments were made on Saturday after Health CS Sicily Kariuki directed the board to have a sitting to assign the vacant roles.
Earlier on Friday, CS Kariuki suspended Koros and Dr Githae to allow investigations into the blunder that saw neurosurgeons operate on the wrong patient at the hospital.
"I have directed the CEO of KNH and the colleague responsible for this to be sent on compulsory leave," she stated

The CS announced that Dr. John Ong'ech and Thomas Mutie would take over in an acting capacity. However, Ong'ech declined the position for personal reasons.
"We will ensure every Kenyan that we are called to serve is served efficiently, effectively and minimize confusion such as the one we have seen here," CS Kariuki affirmed.
The Health CS made this directive after the morning incident that saw the KNH medics perform surgery on a different patient in what was reported to be a mix-up.
Following the suspension, a section of Rift Valley leaders faulted the CS, demanding the immediate reinstatement of Koros.
The politicians including Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Bureti MP Japhet Mutai and Eric Keter (Belgut) stated that the right protocol was not observed as the CS should have consulted the Hospital Board before making the decision.
Speaking on the behalf of the legislators, Cheruyiot stated that the fiasco had been orchestrated by cartels who were out to disrupt the operations of the hospital.
“Who are you working for, are you working with the President who wants to revamp the healthcare system or are you working for the cartels that have been lining up for a long time to do tenders and business at the hospital but have found it difficult due to the leadership of Lily Koros,” he posed.
