How Top Police Jobs Will be Shared in New Command Structure

Details have emerged of how the three units in the National Police Service (NPS) will share top slots in the new command structure.

The eight regional commanders’ slots have been shared among the Kenya Police, Administration Police Service (APS) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Four of the commanders were picked from the Kenya Police, three from APS and one from DCI.

According to The Standard, new faces are to be named to hold the positions of county commanders.

Those in the required ranks but above 56 years have been recalled to police headquarters for redeployment.

The pending changes to affect county commanders will see APS get 19 slots, DCI five and Kenya Police 23 to cover all the 47 counties.

Both Kenya Police and APS have already recalled their regional commanders and named new ones.

The structural changes are set to affect at least 200 senior officers.

On Thursday, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet announced new changes to the National Police Service touching on senior officials.

Addressing a meeting in Nairobi, the IG revealed a new list of police regional commissioners reiterating the previous ones would be redeployed.
