Best and Worst Songs of 2018

    Nyashinski emerged as the top Kenyan artiste with his hit songs ‘Malaika’ and ‘Bebi Bebi’ propelling him to the top spot as the Kenyan artiste with most streamed songs.

    Khaligraph’s ‘Testimony 1990’ album claimed the number one spot for the top albums of 2018.

    Narudisha by Gloria Muliro, Melanin by Sauti Sol and Patoranking and Malaika by Nyashinski also topped as the most trending songs in Kenya based on the number of times each song appeared in the Top 100 Kenyan chart.

    A research conducted on YouTube by also showed the most hated music video of 2018, based on the number of dislikes.

    According to data on the video platform, 'Sikireti' by Willy Paul and Jamaican artiste Cecile has only 6.4k likes compared to 8.4k dislikes.

    From the onset of the video’s release, Kenyans received the video with a lot of criticism and even started to play games to see whether the number of dislikes would beat the number of likes, which they did.

    2019 has started with a storm, regarding the amount of airplay that local musicians get on local media stations.

    It has been noted by the singers with concern that musicians from Tanzania, Nigeria, and other countries are being given preference over Kenyans.

    Some media personalities have turned the heat back on the artistes by claiming that they released sub-par music which could not be played on high rotation.
