DP William Ruto Hosts Meeting In Karen Office

Deputy President William Ruto, on Thursday hosted a crisis meeting in his Karen office in the amidst the ongoing political drama in the Jubilee party.

According to reports, the deputy president was chairing a Multi-Agency Committee on Food Security.

The meeting came in the backdrop of a statement he made on Tuesday, where he posted a tweet in support of the president, but has since avoided political talk even as his trusted allies continued to defend his 2022 campaign.

Health Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, a close ally of President Uhuru was also present in the Karen meeting.

During the whole meeting, it is reported that Ruto was focused and appeared unbowed by the heated political environment.

The apparent tussle within Jubilee ranks was triggered on New Year's eve, when Gatundu MP Moses Kuria told revelers at Thika Stadium that the region would no longer be used as voting machines, but should benefit from the president's agenda given that he hails from there.

Shortly after, the then Party's Vice-Chairman David Murathe fueled the controversy by indicating that the deputy president should retire alongside Uhuru given that they served their term concurrently.

However, a section of Ruto’s allies led by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri have since challenged the Head of State to clarify his position on his preferred presidential candidate in the next general election.

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju on Wednesday addressed reports of the political outfit's disintegration.

During a presser at the headquarters at Pangani, Tuju exuded confidence that the party would weather the internal wrangles witnessed in the recent past.
