ERC Reduces the Price of Petrol and Other Petroleum Products

The government through the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Monday evening announced new prices on fuel products.

According to the new tariffs the cost of super petrol was reduced by Ksh9.33 to Ksh104.21 in Nairobi.

Besides, ERC reduced diesel prices by Ksh10.04 to a maximum allowed pump price of Ksh102.24 and kerosene price by Ksh3.52.

Announcing the new pump prices for major towns across the country, ERC stated "in accordance with Legal Notice No.196 of 2010, the Energy (Petroleum Pricing) Regulations and the amendment thereof, the Energy Regulatory Commission (the Commission) has calculated the maximum retail pump prices of petroleum products, which will be in force from 15th January to 14th February 2019".

The price review is made after considering the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products.

"The prices are inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT) at 8% in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018," ERC stated.

"The changes in this month’s prices have been as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreasing between November and December 2018," the authority added.
