Police Detonate Grenades Left At Dusit D2 Hotel

Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, on Wednesday evening urged Kenyans to avoid panicking following the latest blasts heard from Riverside Drive, Nairobi.

Boinnet explained that the bomb squad was still detonating grenades left at the scene by the slain terrorists.

The blasts were heard hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the attackers had been neutralised, assuring Kenyans of their security.

“I assure fellow Kenyans and our visitors that you are safe in Kenya. Inform the police and any authority of any suspicious individuals. We can never take anything for granted, we shall continue the never-ending work of strengthening our systems,” he stated.

Speaking at State House, the Head of State further stated that terrorists involved in this heinous act had been

killed.

“All the terrorists in the Dusit D2 hotel attack have been neutralized,” the President told the nation.

Kenyatta further stated that 14 people had been confirmed dead while 700 had been rescued. He  expressed his remorse for the lives lost during the incident and commended all agencies which quickly responded.

“We will seek out every person involved in the funding, planning and execution of this heinous act,” the

president added during his address.

The Kenya Red Cross, security forces, firefighters and civilians responded promptly, helping evacuate those trapped inside the complex.

The incident happened on Tuesday when attackers raided the Dusit hotel along 14 Riverside Drive, Westlands, Nairobi. They were heavily armed with guns and explosives.
