Kibwana Warned Online Popularity Might Cost Him Presidency

Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) head of communication, Onesmus Kilonzo, has warned Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana that he risks losing the presidency if he put his hopes on an overzealous online community.

According to Kilonzo, Kenyans have proven that the so-called “development” does not rank among the hot favorites when it comes to political choices.

As a matter of fact, Kilonzo stated that Kenyans had proven ethnic interests far outweigh the so-called “developmental” matters.

In 2007, despite making Rarieda a model constituency in terms of development, Raphael Tuju was felled by an opponent with little development record.

Former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth had been rated number one in the management of CDF. He seemed certain to clinch the presidency adding to his massive social media battalion but was dealt a big blow after the 2013 election results came in.

According to many observers, Kenneth and Tuju fell because of going against the community interests by failing to support Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga respectively.

Furthermore, Kilonzo argued that Raila Odinga remained hugely popular in the Kibera slums and even got the “Lord of Poverty” tag but was still elected the area MP for many years.

Similarly, despite President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard of Gatundu being associated with high levels of poverty, characterized by rampant alcoholism and jigger manifestation for a long time, he managed to get more than 90 percent of their votes since 2013.

In the same fashion, Kambas have voted overwhelmingly for Kalonzo’s camp since 2007 despite his detractors using the high levels of poverty in Ukambani against him.

In the recent past, Kenyans have come out in large numbers on online forums to urge the Makueni governor to run for President in 2022.

Kivutha has also been accused of trying to wrestle for the mantle of leadership of the Kamba Nation.
