DCI Officers Question Nurse Over Link to Dusit D2 Hotel Attack

Police on Saturday questioned a trainee nurse after investigations linked his particulars to the perpetrators of the terror attack at 14 Riverside.

Eric Kinyanjui, a 26-year-old trainee nurse at Nazareth Hospital in Kiambu County, was believed to be one of the suspects killed during the Dusit D2 rescue operations.

However, the officers from the Directorate of of Criminal Investigations (DCI) figured out that he was not among the attackers that were killed as his phone was still on long after the terrorists at the Riverside attack were neutralized.

A trip to Ngecha village, Kiambu County in which the DCI officers questioned local Chief, Leah Ngia as well as Kinyanjui’s grandmother, is what led them to his current location.

The DCI officers then tracked Kinyanjui down to Nazareth Hospital where he has been working.

They showed up at the hospital with a printout of his ID which had the name, Eric Kinyanjui Munyi.

Investigations had revealed that his particulars were linked to one of the SIM cards used by the Riverside attackers.

During his questioning, Kinyanjui claimed that he was not in communication with any of the Dusit attackers, adding that his particulars could have been used by the suspects during cell registration.

The trainee nurse explained that he lost his ID in July 2018 and promptly reported it to his local police station. He was then issued with a police abstract which he used to obtain his new ID.

After questioning, Kinyanjui was released. However, the officers indicated that they would take his official statement at a later date.
