Raila's Message Forces Uhuru To Break Protocol in Kisumu

A last-minute reminder from ODM Party leader Raila Odinga forced President Uhuru Kenyatta to delay his flight from Kisumu.

Uhuru was all set to leave the lakeside city after attending the burial of his longtime friend and former Youth Enterprise and Development Fund (YEDF) Chairman Bruce Odhiambo.

The president was shaking the hands of dignitaries who had lined up to see him off when Odinga pulled him aside and reminded him about an important meeting.

Apparently, Odinga had organized a meeting and Uhuru had agreed to attend but they both forgot about it.

Upon being informed, Uhuru left the airport in the company of Raila and Kisumu Deputy Governor Matthew Owili.

The three leaders headed to an unknown location without security and escort vehicles – a contravention of the protocol.

What is even more surprising is that the road was not cleared for them since the traffic officers who were controlling the flow of traffic during the president’s visit had already been dismissed.

Uhuru, Raila, and Owili headed towards Kisumu’s central business district and attended the meeting that took place at an undisclosed venue.

The president then returned to the airport and flew back to Nairobi.

Nation reports that the presidential jet remained parked on the runway with its engine still running.
