Government Gives Chinese Contractor 12 Days to Complete Project

Urban Development PS Charles Hinga has given a 12-day-ultimatum to a Chinese contractor to complete building a temporary site for the relocation of traders in Ngong Market.

According to the PS, the China Tiancheng Engineering East African Limited said the construction of the temporary shed had to be completed in time, given that the government had already paid for the project.

We have to give traders a decent environment to carry out their trade,” the PS urged.

He also confirmed that the Kajiado County Government had already expedited land compensations for the construction to proceed.

He added that they would not accept excuses from the contractor given that the government had lost funds in similar situations.

We are not going to accept any excuses from the contractor, we have lost money in the past when funds allocated for projects did not serve the intended purpose,” the CS affirmed.

Hinga ordered that the company would have to work for 24 hours each day to ensure that they delivered their part of the agreement.

The PS also assured the workers who would be hired at the construction site that the region’s County Commissioner would ensure that security would be provided for them.

He also threatened that the Government would halt similar projects with the Chinese contractors if any delays were experienced.

Hinga addressed the issue while speaking to reporters in Ngong Town.
