Mike Sonko Explains Why He Carried Gun to Riverside Attack

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has finally revealed the real reason why he carried a gun to Dusit D2 Hotel in Riverside after the terror attack.

Sonko explained that he was ready to engage with the terrorists and that he was a sharpshooter.

He further refuted claims that he was carrying a power bank.

"I was not carrying a power-bank, it was a gun but I did not expose it intentionally. There is nothing wrong with me being armed when going to such a scene.

"I am a sharpshooter, I am good in that, in shooting," he stated.

He further divulged that the gun he owns is a 9mm mini-Glock and that he carries it around at times when he is in the house or other places.

"It depends on, at times, when I'm in the house I have to carry it. it is my confidentiality you don't have to disclose at what times you are armed or time you are not," he continued.

The governor caused an uproar in mid-January when he showed up at Riverside, in the company of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, carrying a gadget in his jacket pocket which was interpreted as a gun.

Many Kenyans speculated that it was a pistol but a representative from Sonko's office denied claims that the county head was carrying a firearm in his pocket.

Director Governor Press Service Elkana Jacob explained to Kenyans.co.ke that the gadget in Sonko's pocket was a power bank.

"That is not a firearm. He was carrying a power bank at the site and in fact, I am carrying it right now," he revealed during a phone interview.
