Riverside Attack: Sonko's Gadget Attracts Attention at Dusit D2 Hotel [PHOTOS]

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Wednesday, visited the scene of Riverside attack in the company of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i.

The governor was among a number of politicians who visited the scene to assess the situation.

It was the contents of his jacket pocket, however, that caught the attention of Kenyans online.

Many observed the lining of his pocket and speculated that he was concealing a firearm in a rather casual manner.

"Hii ni pistol ama simu? (Is that a pistol or a phone?)" one Kenyan posed with another responding, "firearm definitely."

Another user by the name Kimtai, "Ameiweka kiumala mala aje(He is carrying it so carelessly)."

A representative from Sonko's office denied claims that the county head was carrying a firearm in his pocket.

The Director Governor Press Service Elkana Jacob explained to Kenyans.co.ke that the gadget in Sonko's pocket was a power bank.

"That is not a firearm. He was carrying a power bank at the site and in fact, I am carrying it right now," he told this writer on phone.

Earlier in the day, Sonko issued a statement over the attack where he condemned the 'cowardly act' of the terrorists.

"Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the victims and survivors. The City stands in solidarity with all the people of Nairobi at this difficult time.

"The perpetrators of this abhorrent act imagine that they will defeat us. We are a strong and resilient nation, under God," he stated.
