Hopewell Student Kills Teacher for Confiscating Mobile Phone

A student from Hopewell Secondary School in Nakuru is in custody for allegedly killing his Physics teacher after confiscating his phone.

The teacher, Peter Omare (32), was killed in the school compound at around 10:20 pm on Thursday.

Investigators found out that he was hit using a blunt object on the head, which caused a fracture on his skull.

Mr Kosgei, who is a village elder in the area, indicated during an interview with Citizen TV that the teacher was attacked on his way home.

He indicated that together with others living near the school, they rushed to the scene after hearing loud screams coming from the location.

Kosgei was also quick to indicate that the teacher was a good, sociable and responsible man.

Hatujawai kuona kitendo kama hii katika area hii (We have never witnessed such an occurrence in this area)," reiterated Kosgei calling on the government to take prompt action in investigating the issue.

The area chief, David Kering, also told Citizen TV that police officers had started investigations into the matter.

He indicated that he arrived at the scene after getting a phone call from the village elder as soon as the unfortunate incident occurred.

The Chief then rallied some Administration Police officers who arrived at the scene and found the body of the slain teacher lying down.

He indicated that on-site analysis of the crime scene showed that the teacher had been hit hard on the head with a weighty and rigid object like a piece of metal.

The investigation by the officers led to the arrest of two students from the school. Another student was also apprehended from a different institution to help the police with the investigation.
