CS Amina Blasted Over Swapping Appointees Names

A tussle is reportedly brewing between Education CS Amina Mohamed and the University of Nairobi (UoN).

In what appears to be a simmering leadership row in the University, the institution’s council rejected all the three deputy vice-chancellors nominated by the CS.

The council further accused the CS of swapping the names of winning candidates for less performing candidates.

Amina allegedly bypassed the names of two candidates the council recommended for appointment after they emerged top during interviews.

The council chaired by Prof Julia Ojiambo has reached out to Attorney-General (AG) Paul Kihara insisting that Ms Mohamed overstepped her mandate.

For instance, the Council settled for Prof Isaac Mbeche, who scored 82.9 percent for the position of DVC finance, planning and development.

However, the Education CS appointed Prof Mohamud Jama who emerged second with 66.8 percent.

Prof Stephen Kiama, who scored 78.7percent in the interview was recommended for the post of DVC human resource and administration.

In a sharp departure from the recommendation, the CS appointed Prof William Ogara who was third in the interview with a score of 62 percent.

Prof Madara Ogot, who the council wanted to take over the as the DVC of research, production and extension after emerging first with 76 percent score was reportedly swapped with Prof Lydia Njenga who emerged third with 63.1 percent.
