Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i on Monday chaired the first meeting as coordinator of the National Government Programmes and Projects.
According to People Daily, in attendance were 12 MPs among them ODM Chairman and Suba MP John Mbadi, James Nyikal (Seme), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay) and Samuel Atandi (Alego-Usonga).
Ochillo Ayako (Migori senator), Rose Nyamunga (Kisumu Woman Representative), Mark Nyamita (Uriri) and Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) were also present.
Cabinet Secretaries present included Mwangi Kiunjuri (Agriculture), Simon Chelgui (Water), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia (Transport and Infrastructure).
Also present were Nelson Gaichuhie (Chief Administrative Secretary, National Treasury and Planning ) and Technical and Vocational Training PS Kevit Desai.
Matiang’i warned that the government would no longer tolerate civil servants who waste time in the office without serving the public.
“He was categorical on service delivery and warned that those who cannot deliver would better start planning their exit.
“He told us the President has given him clear instructions to ensure that things are moving,” a source at the meeting disclosed.
The leaders discussed the extension of the SGR to Kisumu, removal of the water hyacinth from Lake Victoria and construction of ring roads around the lake, the plight of cane farmers and sugar factories, and the stalled low volume seal roads in the entire Nyanza region.
It was revealed that Matiang'i has lined up a series of meetings this week to lay out strategies on how to execute his mandate, including one with all Cabinet and Principal secretaries.
