Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been forced to act over the party’s wrangles with some demanding that Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana be expelled.
Kalonzo, reportedly, convened a secret meeting on Tuesday with the hardliners who wanted the governor kicked out and others who were calling for talks before any such action was taken.
Kibwana, however, revealed that he was not invited to the party's meeting and so will not be attending.
"I'll not attend that meeting because I wasn't invited, but if Wiper leadership thinks they can intimidate us into supporting a certain political narrative, they are deeply mistaken because Kenya has changed and grown in democracy terms," he told Daily Nation.
In the contested talks, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi reportedly demanded that Kibwana, the party’s chairman, be expelled, whereas, some MPs asked for moderations before action was taken.
Media was also blocked with one of Kalonzo’s aides, allegedly, personally contacting journalists from the area and asking them to stay away.
The meeting, aimed at discussing the party chairman, also invited Wiper MPs and Members of County Assembly (MCA).
Convening the meeting, Kalonzo also reportedly sought to settle the constant wrangles between the area’s governors and their respective MCAs.
MPs who asked for dialogue included Makali Mulu of Kitui Central, Jessica Mbalu of Kibwezi East, Charles Nguna of Mwingi West and Dr Irene Kasalu, Kitui Women Rep.
Kibwana, together with Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu, sparked talk after they revealed a plan to oust Kalonzo with a different political direction.
