Only Kenyan Journalist DP Ruto Follows on Twitter

Deputy President William Ruto is among the most popular Kenyans on social media platform, Twitter, boasting over 2 million followers but only following 65 people.

Citizen TV's Jeff Koinage is among the few people that have the privilege of being followed by Ruto.

Local politics is not prominent on Ruto’s timeline because of the limited number of individuals on the list of those he follows.

Kenyans that feature on the list include President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

Other individuals that the DP keeps tabs with are international personalities including presidents and businessmen.

The Africans that appear on his follow list are, Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Nana Addo Dankwa (Ghana), Muhammadu Buhari (Nigeria), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Hage G. Geingob (Namibia).

Other notable personalities are US President Donald Trump and his Deputy Mike Pence and President Barack Obama, UN Spokesperson, and Entrepreneur Mike Bloomberg.

In May 2018, Uhuru unfollowed Ruto and caused a storm online with netizens speculating the reasons behind it.

It had caused such an uproar that former State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu had to explain what happened in Parliament.

Manoah attributed the act to a fault of the president's communication team stating, "That was a mistake that occurred, and both the president and deputy were explained to."
