Governor Mike Sonko Declares Support for Kalonzo's Presidential Bid

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has thrown his weight behind former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka's presidential bid.

During a Wiper Party convention in Matungulu in Machakos County, Sonko revealed that he will campaign for Kalonzo come 2022.

“I do not need to vie for the presidency. What I want to do is to help Musyoka, our elder brother move forward, to help you until you retire or you become old,” Sonko told the former VP.

Sonko also went ahead to commit his community mobilisation group, Sonko Rescue Team, to campaign for Musyoka.

He castigated Governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) for instigating disunity in the Eastern region.

“Unity is very important in any community. When Raila went to Nyanza with the president, I saw all Nyanza governors, MPs and MCAs," Sonko noted.

He added, "I request my colleagues to respect Musyoka. I will look for them because we must unite our community.”

In January, the three Ukambani county bosses launched the People's Empowerment Movement, a move that was interpreted to be geared towards reducing Kalonzo's influence in the region.

Citing the poor leadership experienced in the past years, the leaders vowed to stick together to change the narrative of leadership in the area.

On January 31, Governor Kibwana renounced his position as Wiper Party Chairman.
