Governor Nyong'o Erects Billboard to Honour Jaramogi Odinga

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has faced sharp criticism after erecting a billboard in honour of Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who passed away in January 1994.

The first-term governor took to Twitter on Saturday to announce that Kisumu County was proud to be hosting the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of his death.

He shared two photos of a billboard that was erected along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway with an image of the former vice president.

However, this has not gone down well with many social media users. A number of them have faulted him for wasting the county’s resources on untenable projects.

Steven Adongo wrote, “Others are launching milk processing plants yet you're launching billboards? You are a let down.”

Bill Grahams wrote, “While nurses are on the street and patients dying, if Jaramogi resurrected he wouldn't be amused.”

Fred Obera posted, “So this is what the professor has achieved for the last two years? Bure completely.

Nelson Kiprop wrote, “Using taxpayers money to erect such useless billboards while nurses are on strike.

It is not the first time that Nyong’o has been attacked over links with the Odinga family.

In November 2018, the governor rubbed some people the wrong way after apologizing to the Odinga family following the listing of Jaramogi as a land rate defaulter.
