Caspal Obiero, Michael Oyamo Released on Bail in Sharon Otieno's Murder Case

Caspal Obiero and Michael Oyamo, who were charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby have been freed by the Court of Appeal on a Ksh1 million bail each.

The two were charged alongside Migori Governor Okoth Obado who was also freed by the court on bail in November 2018.

Just like in the to governor's case, the court has found no reason for the suspects detainment and denying them bail.

Obiero worked for the Migori Government as a clerk but appeared to be more of a close aide to the governor.

Oyamo, on the other hand, worked as the PA to Governor Obado. He was specifically accused of luring Sharon from her parent’s home in Homa Bay to Rongo where she was abducted together with Daily Nation journalist Barrack Oduor and later murdered.

Oyamo was also the first individual to be arrested in relation with the murder case.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges against them at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi.

Hearings for their bail applications by the Appeal Court were delayed as they were initially slated for some times in 2018.

The applications were, however, made separately but the Prosecution, in response to Obiero's plea indicated, “There’s a similar application for Michael Oyamo and we wish that these two applications be heard together”.

The resultant outcome was that the two cases of the individuals were consolidated by order of High Court Justice Jessie Lessit.

The High Court had also ordered for comprehensive medical treatment for Obiero before his hearing in response to an application by his lawyer.

Following the earlier ruling, the accused had been remanded at Industrial Area Prison.
