How Jane Njagi's Kin Used Obituary Attempting to Rescue Her From Prophet Owuor

Details have emerged of how the family of Jane Muthoni Njagi was forced to use her mother’s obituary in a bid to rescue her from controversial self-proclaimed Prophet David Owuor.

A report by The Star stated that Muthoni’s kin used an obituary of their mother – Charity Wangari – to trick guards at the Dove Court apartments to allow them to access her.

“I went there three times seeking to see my sister and pass the message to her after I was denied the opportunity,” Duncan Njagi, Muthoni’s brother disclosed.

He disclosed that they devised the strategy on February 19, three days after their mother passed on at Karen Hospital.

The guards allowed him to talk to his sister on the condition that her personal assistant accompanies them to Jacaranda Hotel, the venue of the meeting.

A few minutes into the meeting, they were surrounded by 15 people who introduced themselves as members of Prophet Owuor’s Repentance and Holiness church.

Muthoni’s siblings also alleged that they had to pay Ksh15,400 to be allowed to continue with the meeting.

On the day of the funeral, the family had requested Muthoni to be brought at Montezuma Monalisa Funeral home at 6am for them to start the journey early to their Kirinyaga home.

However, Njagi had to go to Riverside in the company of police to get her released for the burial.

"All we want is to have our sister back. We will do anything to keep her and what she has for her family," he told the Star.

On Monday, the family of Muthoni, a former partner at J M Njagi Advocates firm accused Owuor’s church of brainwashing their kin into becoming a bishop.

It is reported that Muthoni vacated her serviced apartment block located on Rahpta Road, Westlands and donated it to the church for Bible study.
