President Uhuru Backstabbed Jobseekers Just Hours to Interview

Jobseekers were left frustrated after President Uhuru Kenyatta made an appointment just hours before the shortlisted candidates were scheduled to be interviewed for the same job.

KWS had on many occasions advertised a vacancy for the position of Director General, with the most recent one being in February 2019.

A statement on the KWS website stated that the deadline was February 25, 2019, and applicants were supposed to indicate current and expected salary, names and contacts of at least three (3) referees, day time contacts and notice period required to take up the appointment.

Nation established that KWS Board of Trustees chaired by John Waithaka, through a consultancy firm, Hawkins Associates, had called for an interview on Thursday 14, March 2019.

However, on Wednesday, a day before the scheduled interviews, President Kenyatta appointed Brigadier John Waweru as the new Director-General of KWS.

One of the candidates shortlisted for the job, who requested anonymity expressed his frustrations at the way things unfolded.

“If the law allows the President to make a direct appointment, then why did the board initiate the process of recruitment?” the man told Nation.

According to him, it was by only by luck that he was in Nairobi on Tuesday when the call inviting them to the interview came through.

The newly appointed DG was gazetted alongside former Police IG Joseph Boinnet who was appointed as CAS in the Tourism Ministry, which KWS falls under.

DG Waweru has already taken up the job, having conducted a meeting with all eight regional directors from across the country on Friday.
