Lawyer Assa Nyakundi Hospitalised After Shooting Son Dead

City lawyer Assa Nyakudi was on Sunday evening hospitalised at the Nairobi Hospital after he allegedly shot dead his son in what is claimed to be an accident.

Reports from Citizen Digital indicate the advocate was rushed to the hospital after developing shock symptoms while at the Muthaiga Police Station where he was being interrogated for the shooting.

The advocate was expected to be arraigned in court on Monday following a miscellaneous application which would enable the prosecution time to conclude investigations into the incident.

On Sunday, the lawyer was in the car with his 29-year-old son, Joseph Nyakundi, when he accidentally fired his gun, killing his son.

Reports indicate he tried to reach for his pistol from the right rear pouch and in the process to holster it, he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his son, who was on the back seat of the Toyota Axio car, in the chest.

At the time of the incident, Nyakundi had a Glock pistol with 15 bullets.

The two had just attended service at ICC Church along Mombasa Road and were heading home to Muthaiga North.

As they were approaching the house, Nyakundi accidentally shot his son in the chest while he was safeguarding his pistol.

The advocate, who is the founder of Nyakundi and Company Advocates, is a licensed gun holder.

Nairobi County Police Commander Philip Ndolo stated that they were investigating the incident.

The advocate has represented a number of prominent Kenyans, including Nyeri Magistrate Pauline Chesang, who was recently accused of killing her husband lawyer Robert Chesang.
