Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti on Monday, told off DP William Ruto's allies who had in the previous week embarked on a verbal onslaught against the police boss.
In an interview with the Nation, DCI Kinoti held that he would not relent in his pursuit against individuals involved in corruption dismissing the narrative peddled by politicians allied to Ruto that his investigations were politically motivated.
"I will not be blackmailed, and I will not keep off. Tell those who are abusing me in political rallies that Kinoti is unshakeable, and that I will not allow billionaires to enjoy their ill-gotten wealth in peace," he was quoted by the publication.
He further stated that no one would be spared in the graft war adding that big fish would be prosecuted accordingly.
“The days of sacred cows are over. We will no longer allow economic saboteurs to dictate to us what to do,” Kinoti stated.
Over the weekend, MPs in DP Ruto's camp stated that the DCI did not have the mandate of investigating economic crimes.
Ruto explained that “The fight against corruption must proceed on the basis of correct information and by competent institutions that have the constitutional mandate and institutional capacity so that we can have results.
“We will refuse and reject any attempt by people to put together a political narrative using corruption and propaganda to drive a scheme to undermine Government programmes and projects, with the aim of destroying the Big Four agenda,” he stated.
On Saturday, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen called for the sacking of Kinoti for leaking information to the media before summoning his suspects.
"We cannot fight corruption like that. We have to fight corruption objectively. I want to tell the DCI that we are not asking for a favour, neither are we asking him to be lenient. We are telling him to do things according to the law," Murkomen stated.
According to the National Police Service Act 2011, the functions of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations include collecting and providing criminal intelligence.
Other duties are, "Undertaking investigations on serious crimes including homicide, narcotic crimes, human trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, economic crimes, piracy, organized crime, and cybercrime among others."
