Lorry Rams Into Stalls at Ortum Market, Kills One

One person died while three others sustained serious injuries when a lorry rammed into Ortum market along the Kitale-Lodwar highway on Friday.

KTN reports that the lorry, which was transporting goods from Kapenguria to Lodwar, had been parked by the road.

The driver had gone into the market to buy households items when it started moving.

It knocked a Nissan vehicle from behind before destroying shops and stalls that were built along the road.

The person who died was in one of the shops and was trapped in the rubble.

Recounting the ordeal, Moses Kodeny, a survivor, explained that their car was hit as they tried to get out through the window.

"The driver had stopped to buy sugar. Moment later, we heard loud screams. Upon checking, we discovered that the lorry had lost control.

"We had tried to open the doors but could not. We escaped through the windows and fell on the road. That's how we got away," he narrated.

West Pokot Police Commander Mathew Kuto confirmed the incident and revealed that police had launched investigations into the matter.
