11-year-old Kenyan Lands Role in Ksh2 Billion Movie

A Kenyan boy was lucky to have starred in an upcoming movie that is based in Malindi, Kilifi County.

Nassir Said Birya, a Class Four pupil at Mambrui Primary will feature in the movie, Tolo Tolo, that will be released on December 25, 2019.

Italian based film production company, Taodue, will also cast superstar Checco Zalone, a musician, singer-songwriter, imitator, comedian and screenwriter.

Antonio De Feo, the Tolo Tolo movie's Executive Producer stated that the young boy was scouted in December 2018.

“On the material day, Said was playing with other children when actor Zalone, Location Manager Kassim Ahmed Omar and I spotted and called him,” he told Nation.

“Said was among the cast of about 130 artists and crew drawn from Italy, which include 60 Kenyans,” he disclosed.

The director declined to ferry certain characters from Italy arguing that Kenyans are equally talented.

While in Kenya, the production team spent about Ksh130 million for a production that required a total of about 2,500 locals to act in various scenes and behind the cameras.

Antonio also plans to open a film school in the coastal town and called Kenya a paradise for film production because of its beautiful hills, sandy beaches, rivers, caves, parks, glaciers and rich African traditional cultures.

He first came to Kenya in 1991, aged 27 to shoot a movie but fell in love with the country and later settled in Malindi.
