NTSA Applauds Matatu Driver Who Stopped to Put Out Fire in Burning Car

A driver was on Tuesday applauded by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) after he stopped his vehicle to extinguish fire on another car.

The driver, identified as Isaac Mburu, of Ganaki Sacco was driving a vehicle registration number KCA 364Y when he saw the vehicle almost on fire.

It is then that he stopped his bus and went to put out the fire using what seemed like an extinguisher.

"We commend the actions of the KCA364Y driver from Ganaki Sacco, let us all be our brother's keepers on the roads," NTSA wrote on its Twitter page.

Other netizens also applauded Mburu for his tremendous work.

"Kudos to this Ganaki Sacco driver, he had to stop and extinguish the fire using his own, may your day be full of blessings," Musa noted.

Reports indicate that car fires are majorly caused by fuel leaks or short circuit of the battery, the battery terminal or electric wires of the vehicle.

Clothes used during maintenance, that are stained with fuel, can also cause a fire if accidentally left under the bonnet.

Experts warn that due to electric items in a car, drivers should check if the battery terminal is properly fixed on the battery.

They add that high-speed limits can increase the risk of fire in case of pre-existing faults because the car components heat up faster.
