Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara called out Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika on Thursday evening for uttering what she termed as inappropriate words during a church service.
The journalist was giving her take on the TV show, News Gang about why religious leaders should be careful when giving politicians opportunities to speak at church altars.
Okwara defined a church pulpit as a sacred place and a point of contact with the heavens and sometimes, politicians defiled it with their utterances.
Yvonne made reference to Senator Kihika's remarks during the heat of the Murathe - Ruto fall out, where the politician stated, "An opinion is like an asshole, everybody has one. Kwa hivo tuwache kila mtu awachwe alete (So we should let everyone have) their own opinion."
Okwara believed that the senator should have been aware of the setting and used a better way to communicate her message.
She particularly highlighted the verse that was behind Kihika, Mathew 3:16 that read "As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him."
Referring to Senator Kihika's slur, the hard-hitting news presenter commented: "I don't want to imagine what the heavens thought of those words."
Yvonne praised Reverend Grace Wandithia of a church in Banana, Kiambu County for blocking Jubilee MPs from expressing political views in her church.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Reverend Grace Wandithia stated that it was the church's policy not to let the politicians speak openly to the church.
"What we normally do is that if there is any information they want to give to the congregation, it is not in the alter or inside the church. Maybe they do it outside the church.
'When we are doing services we just restrict them. They don't speak how they want," she explained.
