A new twist has emerged in Mary Wambui's murder case after a police investigation revealed that Joseph Kori was also wanted dead.
An investigator, Oliver Nabonwe, told Kiambu High Court that the suspect, Judy Wangui, had an affair with Kori and that by the time the murder occurred, the two had parted ways.
The Standard reported Nabonwe further revealed that after the two had called their affair off, the seemingly jilted Wangui then targeted Kori and his entire family.
“We have established that on January 25, Wangui was stalking the deceased’s family and had spent time trailing them at their residential house at Safari Park estate," testified Nabonwe.
This was during a hearing in which Wangui, together with another suspect, James Mathenge, had applied to be released on bail. The investigator argued that the two should be denied bail since they posed a threat to the family of the bereaved.
“We are not certain that the deceased was her main and only target, and if the accused is released on bond, the safety of the bereaved family, who are key witnesses in this matter, cannot be assured," continued the investigator.
To prove his case, Nabonwe further disclosed that he had Wangui’s mobile subscriber data and statements from security guards at Safari Park estate that accompanied his assertions.
The two suspects, who are still in police custody were charged with killing Mary Wambui whose body was found dumped in a dam in Juja.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Kori, who had been arrested together with the two, was released last month.
