Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced that it finally disbursed the Ksh50 million promised to Harambee Stars players.
The money had been pledged by DP William Ruto when the team qualified for the first African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament after 15 years.
In his statement, FKF President Nick Mwendwa appreciated the generosity of the Deputy President stating that the gesture goes far in motivating the players to perform.
“Consequently, the federation has already wired Ksh50million to the accounts of all players and staff that participated in the 2019 AFCON qualifier matches, as was promised to the national team by the Deputy President,” Mwendwa stated.
DP Ruto had made the pledge after the team took on Ethiopia, in a match that they won by beating their opponents by three goals to nil.
Ruto, through the Sports Ministry, disbursed the money to the football governing body in the country on Monday, April 8.
Mwendwa also revealed that the Ministry of Sports had released the funds that are supposed to cater for the team's preparation for the upcoming AFCON in Egypt later this year.
“We want to sincerely thank the government not only for the release of this funds but also for the unwavering support we continue to receive around our national teams,” added the FKF president.
The team is set for training sessions in France before finally traveling to Egypt for the competition.
